CVE-2026-96294
Description
A flaw was found in Apache Thrift's Node.js bindings. A remote attacker can exploit improper exception handling by triggering an uncaught exception. This failure causes the application process to crash, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This flaw is rated as Important severity because unauthenticated remote network clients can abruptly terminate the application process by exploiting missing exception handling during WebSocket upgrade events, resulting in a complete denial of service. Within Red Hat environments, Apache Thrift is typically deployed as an RPC framework in specialized application stacks rather than an enabled system daemon. Only server deployments that actively implement the Node.js bindings for WebSocket communication are vulnerable; applications utilizing alternative language runtimes or non-upgraded HTTP endpoints remain unaffected.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
