CVE-2026-95117

Description

A flaw was found in jsmn. A remote attacker can exploit a buffer overflow by providing specially crafted JSON input to the parser. Successful exploitation causes the application to crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Statement

Red Hat has evaluated this vulnerability as having an Important severity due to the potential for unauthenticated remote attackers to trigger an application crash and denial of service across the network without user interaction. The flaw arises from improper memory boundary handling when parsing untrusted JSON structures, directly terminating host processes that ingest malicious payloads. Within the Red Hat product portfolio, the jsmn library is not included or supported in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, significantly limiting exposure to community packages and custom integrations.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Integrity

Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands

Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart

Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.

Other

Technical Impact: Unexpected State

Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
