CVE-2026-94635
Description
A flaw was found in the Apache Thrift Lua bindings. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending requests containing inconsistent length parameters, triggering excessive resource allocation without proper limits. This issue can exhaust available system memory or processing capacity, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
Red Hat rates the impact of this vulnerability as Important because an unauthenticated remote attacker can trigger excessive resource consumption leading to a denial of service without requiring credentials or user interaction. Exposure across Red Hat environments is confined to deployments actively implementing Thrift network services built with the Lua language bindings. Typical installations that do not expose Lua-bound Thrift network interfaces to untrusted traffic remain unaffected by this flaw.
Mitigation
Restrict network exposure by limiting access to applications utilizing Apache Thrift Lua bindings to trusted network segments or binding listening services strictly to localhost (127.0.0.1).
To restrict network access to the port utilized by the Thrift service using firewalld:
1. Remove public exposure of the service port:
# firewall-cmd --permanent --remove-port=<PORT>/tcp
2. Restrict communication to a trusted IP subnet:
# firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=trusted --add-source=<TRUSTED_CIDR>
3. Reload firewalld to apply the changes:
# firewall-cmd --reload
Warning: Reloading the firewall configuration may temporarily interrupt active connections. Blocking this port will prevent any unauthorized or untrusted remote clients from communicating with the service.
Additionally, avoid deploying or running services that implement Apache Thrift via its Lua bindings if not strictly required by your workloads.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
