CVE-2026-93451
Description
A flaw was found in snappy-java. A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the Snappy.uncompress*Array methods. This flaw occurs because the methods incorrectly calculate the output array size, passing an undivided length to native code. A remote attacker, by providing specially crafted compressed input, could exploit this to write past array boundaries with controlled data, leading to heap memory corruption.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate because exploitation requires an application to process untrusted compressed input directly using specific typed array decompression routines, predominantly leading to localized heap corruption or denial of service rather than straightforward arbitrary code execution. Within Red Hat products, snappy-java is utilized as an underlying compression library across various middleware frameworks and containerized components. Deployments are only vulnerable if applications expose endpoints that deserialize or decompress untrusted user-supplied payload through these affected methods without preliminary size verification.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands; Read Memory; Modify Memory
If the incorrect calculation is used in the context of memory allocation, then the software may create a buffer that is smaller or larger than expected. If the allocated buffer is smaller than expected, this could lead to an out-of-bounds read or write (CWE-119), possibly causing a crash, allowing arbitrary code execution, or exposing sensitive data.
