CVE-2026-93189

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Human Interface Device (HID) core. When a driver's probe fails after enabling input delivery, the hid_hw_stop() function may free a hidraw structure while in-flight HID reports are still being processed. This timing issue can lead to a use-after-free vulnerability, allowing a local attacker to potentially cause system instability or execute arbitrary code.

Statement

A race in the HID core stop path can allow in-flight HID reports to reach hidraw_report_event after hid_disconnect has freed the backing hidraw object. This is a use-after-free condition and can at least crash the kernel when a probe path fails after hid_device_io_start but before input delivery is explicitly stopped. For the CVSS the PR:L is used for the paranoid score because reliable triggering generally requires local code execution, local device control, or access to a controllable HID emulation path rather than a pure unauthenticated network request. The issue is not directly network reachable and normally depends on local HID device activity, USB or similar local attachment, driver probe failure, and timing of report delivery. Impact is at least local denial of service via kernel crash and in worst case may allow confidentiality or integrity impact due to kernel use-after-free memory corruption.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
