CVE-2026-92956

Description

A flaw was found in vm2. When running untrusted code within a sandbox, improper isolation in WebAssembly streaming functions allows host error objects to leak into the sandbox environment. An attacker capable of running code inside the sandbox can exploit this flaw to escape sandbox containment and achieve arbitrary code execution on the underlying host system.

Statement

Red Hat has evaluated this vulnerability as having an Important severity because it enables an attacker with the ability to run code in an isolated sandbox to completely circumvent isolation boundaries and execute arbitrary actions with host application privileges. In Red Hat products incorporating vm2, such as Red Hat Developer Hub and Ansible Automation Platform components, the risk is present when applications evaluate untrusted scripts, though successful exploitation depends on having direct access to execute untrusted code in the sandbox. Furthermore, the blast radius is constrained to the permissions and privileges granted to the underlying container or host service process.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
