CVE-2026-92946
Description
A flaw was found in vm2. This vulnerability allows an attacker executing untrusted code within the sandbox to escape isolation and achieve arbitrary code execution on the host system. When external module loading is permitted without restricting access to dependency directories, sandboxed code can load vm2 itself, create an unrestricted virtual machine environment, and run arbitrary host operating system commands.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as an Important severity flaw because an attacker capable of submitting untrusted code to the evaluation sandbox can escape isolation boundaries and execute arbitrary commands with the privileges of the underlying host process. Within affected Red Hat offerings, including Red Hat Developer Hub and Ansible Automation Platform components, vm2 is utilized to execute scripts within a restricted runtime. If external module loading is permitted without directory restrictions, malicious input can breach the sandbox and compromise the container environment.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
