CVE-2026-92940

Description

A flaw was found in vm2. When a sandbox is configured to permit HTTPS requests, it improperly exposes the host process's network connection manager to sandboxed code. An attacker running untrusted code within the sandbox can exploit this flaw to intercept pooled network connections released by the host application. This allows the attacker to capture sensitive authentication credentials, inspect plaintext communication, and issue unauthorized requests using the stolen credentials.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as an Important impact because it permits sandboxed code to breach process isolation boundaries and compromise sensitive authentication credentials used by the host application. In Red Hat products utilizing vm2 within service plugins, untrusted scripts granted access to network functionality can snoop on pooled connection agents to capture session headers and intercept outbound network traffic. Although this constitutes a significant confidentiality and integrity breach across the security perimeter, successful exploitation depends on specific sandbox configurations that expose native network capabilities to untrusted execution.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality

Technical Impact: Read Application Data

An adversary that gains access to a resource exposed to a wrong sphere could potentially retrieve private data from that resource, thus breaking the intended confidentiality of that data.

Integrity

Technical Impact: Modify Application Data

An adversary that gains access to a resource exposed to a wrong sphere could potentially modify data held within that resource, thus breaking the intended integrity of that data and causing the system relying on that resource to make unintended decisions.

Other

Technical Impact: Varies by Context

The consequences may vary widely depending on how the product uses the affected resource.
