CVE-2026-92935

Description

A flaw was found in vm2. This vulnerability allows an attacker who can execute untrusted JavaScript inside the sandbox to achieve arbitrary code execution on the host system. By providing an array value to the require configuration when nested sandboxes are enabled, the attacker can bypass isolation boundaries. Consequently, the attacker can escape sandbox containment and execute unauthorized commands with the privileges of the underlying Node.js process.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as having an Important severity rather than Critical because exploitation requires the host application to instantiate the sandbox under specific, non-default conditions enabling nested execution. In Red Hat environments, the affected component is bundled within select containerized services, including Red Hat Developer Hub and Ansible Automation Platform, to isolate dynamic code execution. Under vulnerable configurations, an untrusted user able to submit custom scripts can escape the sandbox boundaries and run arbitrary commands with the permissions of the parent Node.js container process. Environments where user-supplied script evaluation is disabled or where sandbox nesting is not permitted are not susceptible to this flaw.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
