CVE-2026-92934
Description
A flaw was found in vm2. A remote attacker able to run code within the sandbox can bypass environment isolation by exploiting an error handling flaw that fails to properly sanitize host objects. By accessing these unprotected host objects, an attacker can achieve arbitrary code execution and access sensitive information on the underlying host system.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important severity rather than Critical because exploitation is contingent upon an application allowing untrusted JavaScript execution within the vm2 sandbox, requiring specific preconditions and complex exception-handling manipulation to achieve breakout. In supported Red Hat offerings such as Red Hat Developer Hub and Ansible Automation Platform, internal Node.js services utilizing vm2 to isolate dynamic script execution can be compromised if an attacker submits specially crafted payloads. A successful escape breaks out of the intended sandbox boundaries into the underlying container or host environment, compromising the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the host process.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
