CVE-2026-92597

Description

A flaw was found in Nodemailer. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass email domain validation due to incorrect parsing of RFC 5322 comments in email addresses. Specifically, a malformed comment can cause Nodemailer to misinterpret the recipient's domain, leading to the delivery of emails to an attacker-controlled domain. This could result in unintended information disclosure or other security impacts.

Statement

Moderate: This flaw in Nodemailer's email address parser can lead to a domain validation bypass. Applications within Red Hat products that utilize Nodemailer for email handling and perform domain validation using a strict RFC 5322 parser without inspecting parse defects, or a naive prefix/substring allow-list, could be induced to deliver emails to an attacker-controlled domain. Exploitation relies on a discrepancy between the application's validation and Nodemailer's parsing of RFC 5322 comments.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
