CVE-2026-92386

Description

A flaw was found in curl. A remote malicious server can trigger a denial of service (DoS) in cookie handling by providing an overly long cookie name and value that exceeds curl's line-length limit when saved to a cookie file. Subsequent curl operations reading from this cookie file silently abort parsing upon encountering the oversized entry, causing all remaining valid cookies in the file to be ignored.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Low severity because the impact is strictly limited to a client-side denial of service during cookie jar processing, without threatening system memory integrity or enabling code execution. In standard Red Hat environments, automated processes and CLI operations rarely persist untrusted server cookies across sessions using shared cookie files. Exploitation requires an attacker to induce the client to store an oversized cookie, and the consequence is confined to ignoring remaining entries within that particular cookie jar.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
