CVE-2026-92365

Description

A flaw was found in vllm-project vllm. A remote attacker could exploit an algorithmic complexity vulnerability by manipulating unknown functionality within the thinking_budget_state.py file. This manipulation results in inefficient algorithmic complexity, which may lead to a Denial of Service (DoS), making the service unavailable to legitimate users.

Statement

A denial-of-service flaw rated Important severity affects the vLLM inference and serving engine as shipped in Red Hat AI Inference Server 3 and Red Hat OpenShift AI. The vulnerability is an inefficient algorithmic complexity issue in vLLM's thinking-budget handling code (vllm/v1/sample/thinking_budget_state.py): a remote attacker can submit requests that trigger disproportionate resource consumption, degrading or exhausting the service and making it unavailable to legitimate users. Red Hat rated this flaw Important (CVSS 3.1 score 7.5, AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H), which is higher than the Moderate rating in the upstream CVE record, because Red Hat assessed that exploitation requires no privileges and has a high impact on availability. The affected vLLM container images are handled through delegated resolution, with the responsible product teams pursuing fixes; some delegated components that do not include the vulnerable vLLM functionality were assessed as not affected.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
