CVE-2026-89620

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's HID Intel QuickSPI driver. A local attacker can exploit a heap buffer overflow by providing a specially crafted report through a hidraw SET_REPORT/SET_FEATURE ioctl. This allows the attacker to overflow a buffer with controlled length and content, potentially leading to memory corruption or denial of service.

Mitigation

Prevent the kernel module from loading by adding an install rule to the modprobe configuration:

# echo "install intel-quickspi /bin/true" > /etc/modprobe.d/disable-intel-quickspi.conf

If the module is already loaded into running memory, unload it:

# modprobe -r intel-quickspi

Caveats:
Disabling this module prevents the system from interfacing with Intel Touch Host Controller QuickSPI devices. If the driver is currently in use and cannot be immediately unloaded, a system restart is required for the change to take effect.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
