CVE-2026-87830

Description

A flaw was found in Apache WSS4J. In the streaming security policy validator, specific XML Path Language (XPath) expressions can fail to resolve against actual message structures. A remote attacker can exploit this issue to bypass security policy checks by sending message elements that lack required digital signatures or encryption.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because it allows a remote client to bypass integrity checks on specific SOAP body elements without leading to arbitrary code execution or service unavailability. Within Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP), the flaw only manifests when web services actively implement StAX-based streaming WS-SecurityPolicy validation using unsupported or relative XPath expressions. Deployments relying on standard DOM processing models or fully qualified element selectors are not susceptible to this validation failure.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
