CVE-2026-85716

Description

A flaw was found in the AsyncHttpClient (AHC) library. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to impersonate the server on a non-TLS (Transport Layer Security) or compromised network. The library's authentication process for SCRAM and Digest mutual-authentication does not properly verify server responses, even when a mismatch is detected. This could lead to information disclosure, as a malicious peer could be accepted as the legitimate server without proving knowledge of the shared secret.

Statement

Low: This flaw in the AsyncHttpClient library allows server impersonation only when an application communicates over a non-TLS or compromised transport. This limits the impact to environments where secure communication protocols are not enforced, as a peer could be accepted as the server without proving knowledge of the shared secret.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
