CVE-2026-84895
Description
A flaw was found in proxygen. During session closure, member data continues to be accessed after calling the base termination method, which may notify the session handler and destroy the session object. A remote attacker can exploit this use-after-free condition to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) through an application crash or potentially trigger memory corruption.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having an Important severity impact because an unauthenticated network client can trigger premature object deallocation during session termination, resulting in an application crash and denial of service. The proxygen package is not shipped or supported across any Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases or Red Hat enterprise products, restricting the scope of this issue to community environments such as Fedora.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory
If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
