CVE-2026-83803

Description

A flaw was found in Sentry. When the relocation feature is enabled, Sentry instances unsafely deserialize a legacy database field during the import of a user-supplied relocation archive. This allows an authenticated user to craft a malicious archive, leading to arbitrary code execution within the import worker process. Self-hosted installations using the default configuration are not affected because the relocation feature is disabled by default.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important rather than Critical because exploitation requires authenticated access and depends on the non-default relocation service being actively enabled. An authenticated attacker who can submit crafted migration archives could execute arbitrary commands in the context of the processing worker, leading to potential complete compromise of the underlying application host. Standard out-of-the-box deployments are not exposed since this import capability is disabled by default, and Sentry is not included or distributed within Red Hat products.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Integrity

Technical Impact: Modify Application Data; Unexpected State

Attackers can modify unexpected objects or data that was assumed to be safe from modification. Deserialized data or code could be modified without using the provided accessor functions, or unexpected functions could be invoked.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU)

If a function is making an assumption on when to terminate, based on a sentry in a string, it could easily never terminate.

Other

Technical Impact: Varies by Context

The consequences can vary widely, because it depends on which objects or methods are being deserialized, and how they are used. Making an assumption that the code in the deserialized object is valid is dangerous and can enable exploitation. One example is attackers using gadget chains to perform unauthorized actions, such as generating a shell.
