CVE-2026-81563

Description

A flaw was found in the BIND resolver. A remote attacker could exploit a vulnerability in the processing of SVCB/HTTPS AliasMode records that reference numerous ServiceMode records. This could lead to the resolver failing to properly release internal resources, causing resource exhaustion. Repeated exploitation would prevent the resolver from performing new recursive lookups, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Statement

This Important denial of service vulnerability affects BIND resolvers, which are critical for DNS resolution in Red Hat environments. Repeated processing of specially crafted SVCB/HTTPS AliasMode records can exhaust internal resources, ultimately preventing the resolver from performing new recursive lookups and disrupting service availability.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (Other); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU)

An attacker that can influence the allocation of resources that are not properly released could deplete the available resource pool and prevent all other processes from accessing the same type of resource. Frequently-affected resources include memory, CPU, disk space, power or battery, etc.
