CVE-2026-81521

Description

A flaw was found in the MongoDB Go Driver. The Client.BulkWrite operation does not properly validate database names, allowing a specially crafted name with reserved characters to redirect write operations. This vulnerability could enable an attacker to modify or corrupt data in unintended databases and collections.

Statement

Red Hat has determined that this vulnerability affects Red Hat products that ship MongoDB Go Driver versions 2.1.0 through 2.8.1 and use the Client.BulkWrite API with an attacker-controlled database name. Products that ship the 1.x driver series do not contain the affected API and are not affected.

Mitigation

Until a fixed driver version is available, do not pass attacker-controlled database names to Client.BulkWrite. Validate database names against an allowlist and reject names containing reserved separator characters. Update to MongoDB Go Driver version 2.8.2 or later when available.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
