CVE-2026-81176

Description

A flaw was found in the Svelte devalue library. An attacker can provide a specially crafted, untrusted payload to the devalue.parse function. This malformed input, specifically out-of-bounds indices, can cause the parser to perform quadratic work, leading to a denial of service (DoS) in applications that process such data.

Statement

A flaw was found in the Svelte devalue JavaScript library, which is bundled as a dependency in several Red Hat products. The devalue.parse function does not reject out-of-bounds array indices (indices greater than or equal to values.length), so a specially crafted untrusted payload can make the parser alternate between array representations, producing quadratic work as the payload grows. Red Hat rates the impact of this flaw as MODERATE (CVSS 5.3, AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L): a remote, unauthenticated attacker who can supply such a payload to an application that parses untrusted devalue-serialized data can cause a denial of service; confidentiality and integrity are not affected. Affected Red Hat products bundle devalue in their container images or builds: Red Hat Trusted Artifact Signer (rekor-search-ui), Red Hat OpenShift AI (odh-feature-server), and the Red Hat Build of Podman Desktop. Because this flaw is MODERATE with a CVSS score below 7.0, fixes for the affected streams are deferred and no trackers are filed; the rhtas-1.3 stream is additionally out of support scope. The residual risk is limited to the availability of applications that accept and parse untrusted devalue-serialized data.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
