CVE-2026-79776
Description
A flaw was found in rclone. A remote attacker can bypass the authentication mechanism by accessing the /debug/pprof/cmdline endpoint. This vulnerability occurs because the pprof debug handler is mounted as its own router route, bypassing the main handler's authentication rule. Successful exploitation allows an unauthenticated attacker to retrieve sensitive backend credentials, leading to information disclosure.
Statement
This flaw is rated as Important because unauthenticated attackers can remotely access sensitive backend credentials from rclone instances running with the remote control daemon enabled. This bypasses the intended authentication, allowing for critical information disclosure.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, do not expose the rclone remote control interface (rclone rcd / --rc) to untrusted networks. If remote control must be enabled, configure authentication with --rc-user and --rc-pass (or the equivalent configuration options) and bind the listener to localhost whenever possible so that /debug/pprof endpoints are not reachable anonymously.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
