CVE-2026-79195

Description

A flaw was found in Chromium. A remote attacker could exploit a use-after-free vulnerability within the Script component. By enticing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML page, the attacker could execute arbitrary code inside the sandbox.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important rather than Critical because successful exploitation is confined to the browser sandbox environment and requires user interaction to open untrusted web content. Chromium is not shipped or supported in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, limiting direct risk in enterprise environments, though packages are available in community repositories. While an unauthenticated remote adversary can achieve code execution within the renderer process by convincing a user to load malicious web markup, compromising the host system would necessitate an additional sandbox escape.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality

Technical Impact: Read Memory

If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart

If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.

Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability

Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands

If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
