CVE-2026-75758

Description

A flaw was found in the Elixir standard library. An attacker who controls a list can trigger an uncontrolled recursion vulnerability by passing a specially crafted list to functions like inspect/1, List.to_string/1, or List.to_charlist/1. This leads to the exhaustion of a BEAM node's memory, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS). The issue occurs when a list's printable prefix exceeds a certain limit but contains a non-code point element, causing misclassification and an error that re-enters the inspection process.

Statement

Red Hat OpenStack Platform 18.0 ships elixir 1.19.5, which is affected by this vulnerability. Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16.2 and 17.1 ship elixir versions 1.9.1 and 1.11.3 respectively, which predate the introduction of the vulnerable code in version 1.15.0 and are therefore not affected.

Mitigation

For Red Hat OpenStack Platform 18.0: Update elixir to version 1.19.6 or later. Applications that do not process untrusted input through the inspect/1, List.to_string/1, or List.to_charlist/1 functions are not vulnerable.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Amplification

An infinite loop will cause unexpected consumption of resources, such as CPU cycles or memory. The software's operation may slow down, or cause a long time to respond.
