CVE-2026-75140

Description

A flaw was found in jsoup. A remote attacker could exploit an uncontrolled resource consumption vulnerability in the XmlTreeBuilder by providing a deeply nested XML document with uniquely-namespaced elements. This causes the builder to copy the entire inherited namespace map on every start element, leading to quadratic time and memory complexity. Successful exploitation could exhaust JVM heap memory, resulting in an OutOfMemoryError and terminating the application, effectively causing a Denial of Service (DoS).

Statement

A flaw was found in jsoup. Parsing deeply nested XML documents can cause a denial of service via excessive stack consumption, leading to a StackOverflowError. An attacker who can supply untrusted XML input to an application using jsoup for parsing can exploit this to crash the application or exhaust system resources.

Mitigation

Validate and limit the nesting depth of XML documents before passing them to jsoup for parsing. Applications should implement input size limits and consider using iterative XML parsers for untrusted input. Where possible, restrict the sources of XML input to trusted origins only.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (Other); Reduce Performance

This issue can make the product perform more slowly. If an attacker can influence the number of iterations in the loop, then this performance problem might allow a denial of service by consuming more platform resources than intended.
