CVE-2026-74705

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's UDP (User Datagram Protocol) tunnel segmentation. This vulnerability arises when the system attempts to process network packets, specifically in the __skb_udp_tunnel_segment() function. An attacker could potentially exploit a use-after-free condition, where the system attempts to use memory that has already been released, leading to system instability or potentially arbitrary code execution.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because it could enable a remote attacker to trigger memory corruption, resulting in a kernel panic or potential arbitrary code execution. Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments running virtualized or containerized network overlays, such as VXLAN or Geneve, process encapsulated traffic and are susceptible to this flaw during packet segmentation offloading. Standard network configurations that do not employ UDP tunnel encapsulation protocols are unlikely to be vulnerable.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
