CVE-2026-73251

Description

A flaw was found in Mongoose. When configured with a Certificate Authority (CA) bundle, the built-in Transport Layer Security (TLS) implementation matches server certificates by name without verifying their cryptographic signatures. A remote network attacker can exploit this vulnerability by presenting a forged certificate to impersonate trusted servers, allowing them to intercept encrypted communications, disclose sensitive credentials, and modify network traffic.

Statement

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Integrity,Authentication

Technical Impact: Bypass Protection Mechanism; Gain Privileges or Assume Identity

When a certificate is invalid or malicious, it might allow an attacker to spoof a trusted entity by interfering in the communication path between the host and client. The product might connect to a malicious host while believing it is a trusted host, or the product might be deceived into accepting spoofed data that appears to originate from a trusted host.
