CVE-2026-72314

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's regulator core. The regulator_lock_two() function, responsible for acquiring two regulators, incorrectly checks for an error code (EDEADLOCK) instead of the correct one (EDEADLK). On certain architectures, such as MIPS, SPARC, and PowerPC, this discrepancy means that if a lock contention occurs, the system fails to properly retry the lock acquisition. This can result in the system operating with an incorrect lock state, potentially leading to system instability or a denial of service.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Technical Impact: Varies by Context

This can lead to incorrect results and resultant weaknesses. For example, the code might inadvertently compare references to objects, instead of the relevant contents of those objects, causing two "equal" objects to be considered unequal.
