CVE-2026-70197
Description
A flaw was found in .NET. An out-of-bounds write vulnerability allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code over the network. By sending specially crafted input to an affected application, an attacker can corrupt system memory and compromise the host environment.
Statement
Red Hat Product Security rates this vulnerability as Important rather than Critical because successful remote exploitation requires specific, high-complexity conditions to reliably trigger the memory corruption. Environments deploying .NET applications exposed directly to untrusted network traffic face potential arbitrary code execution and service compromise. Workloads isolated from public networks or restricted to authenticated, trusted callers face significantly lower risk.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State
Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
