CVE-2026-70165
Description
A flaw was found in .NET. An authorized local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to achieve privilege escalation on the host system. The issue is caused by improper link resolution before file access, where the application fails to properly validate file links. By manipulating these links, an attacker can trick the application into accessing unintended files with elevated permissions.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because exploitation requires existing local system access and specific interaction or timing preconditions, precluding direct remote compromise. In standard Red Hat deployments, .NET applications run under dedicated unprivileged accounts or inside isolated container environments, which constrains the blast radius on the host. An attacker can only elevate privileges if they are able to redirect file operations carried out by an administrative or higher-privileged runtime process.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
