CVE-2026-70161
Description
A flaw was found in .NET. An authorized local attacker can achieve privilege escalation due to a path traversal vulnerability caused by improper file path restrictions. By manipulating file paths to access locations outside the intended directory, the attacker can gain elevated privileges on the system.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as an Important severity because successful exploitation allows an authenticated local user to obtain elevated system privileges, completely compromising host confidentiality, integrity, and availability. While the impact encompasses full privilege elevation, attack feasibility depends on pre-existing local access and user interaction to trigger improper pathname resolution. In standard Red Hat environments hosting .NET applications, multi-user deployments and shared container environments represent the primary exposure if untrusted local users are present.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
