CVE-2026-68405

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's mac80211 Wi-Fi subsystem. When stopping an Access Point (AP) VLAN, the system attempts to free network packet buffers (SKBs) while interrupts are disabled. This improper handling can lead to a situation where network transmission operations occur in an inappropriate context, potentially causing system instability or a denial of service.

Statement

This issue affects systems using mac80211 AP VLAN interfaces. When stopping an AP VLAN, bc_buf SKBs are freed via ieee80211_free_txskb() while holding the bc_buf lock with IRQs disabled, which can recurse into netlink transmit and deadlock. Systems not using mac80211 AP VLAN mode are not affected.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
