CVE-2026-67413

Description

A flaw was found in rabbitmq-server. An authenticated user with permissions to bind and publish messages can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by submitting specially crafted pattern-matching expressions to the Java Message Service (JMS) topic exchange plugin. Because the message broker evaluates these regular expressions without recursion or execution limits, processing complex wildcards consumes excessive system processor resources, rendering the broker unresponsive to legitimate requests.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because successful exploitation requires an authenticated account with permissions to establish topic bindings, and the impact is confined to resource exhaustion leading to denial of service without compromising data confidentiality or integrity. In standard Red Hat deployments, the affected rabbitmq_jms_topic_exchange plugin is not enabled by default, significantly limiting exposure. Environments where JMS topic exchange functionality is inactive or where client binding permissions are strictly controlled remain unaffected.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU)

Attackers can create crafted inputs that intentionally cause the regular expression to use excessive backtracking in a way that causes the CPU consumption to spike.
