CVE-2026-65902

Description

A flaw was found in DOMPurify. An attacker can exploit a vulnerability in how DOMPurify handles its sanitization hooks when default configurations are used. By manipulating the uponSanitizeElement or uponSanitizeAttribute hooks, an attacker can permanently alter the allowed HTML tags and attributes. This allows malicious content to bypass sanitization, potentially leading to cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks and compromising the integrity of web applications.

Statement

This flaw in DOMPurify allows an attacker to bypass sanitization by manipulating internal hooks, leading to potential cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities. The issue permanently alters the default allow-lists for the DOMPurify instance when default configurations are used. Red Hat products, including Red Hat Hardened Images, are not affected by this vulnerability.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
