CVE-2026-63451
Description
A flaw was found in Suricata, a network Intrusion Detection System. A local user can craft a detection rule that combines frame inspection without content and a transformed match without content. Loading this specially crafted rule can trigger a heap buffer overflow, leading to a denial of service by crashing the Suricata engine. Network traffic alone cannot exploit this vulnerability.

To mitigate this issue, restrict administrative access to Suricata's configuration and rule directories. Ensure that only trusted administrators can modify or load detection rules, preventing the introduction of malicious or malformed rules that could trigger the vulnerability.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State
Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
