CVE-2026-63414

Description

A flaw was found in shopify_app. In token-exchange authentication workflows, the application can resolve the active store context from an unverified request parameter rather than the validated session token. An authenticated remote attacker with a valid session token for one store can exploit this flaw by submitting requests containing a target store identifier. This may result in authorization bypass, allowing the attacker to access or alter another store's sensitive application data.

Statement

Red Hat Product Security rates this vulnerability as Important because an authenticated remote attacker can break tenant isolation to access or alter data belonging to other stores without administrative privileges. The shopify_app gem is a specialized Ruby on Rails engine that is not packaged or distributed with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or other Red Hat supported products. Default installations are not exposed unless custom multi-tenant applications that incorporate this library are hosted in the environment.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Access Control

Technical Impact: Bypass Protection Mechanism

Access control checks for specific user data or functionality can be bypassed.

Access Control

Technical Impact: Gain Privileges or Assume Identity

Horizontal escalation of privilege is possible (one user can view/modify information of another user).

Access Control

Technical Impact: Gain Privileges or Assume Identity

Vertical escalation of privilege is possible if the user-controlled key is actually a flag that indicates administrator status, allowing the attacker to gain administrative access.
