CVE-2026-62864

Description

A flaw was found in Ring. A remote attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending HTTP requests with specially crafted parameter names to applications using the wrap-nested-params middleware. The middleware relies on an inefficient regular expression that experiences excessive backtracking when parsing complex input. Processing these malicious requests consumes disproportionate server processor resources, rendering the affected application unresponsive to legitimate users.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as an Important severity flaw because an unauthenticated remote attacker can exhaust server CPU resources and induce a denial of service without requiring credentials. The issue stems from algorithmic complexity and backtracking during the evaluation of nested HTTP parameter names. Red Hat products, including Red Hat Satellite, are not affected as the vulnerable middleware is not present in supported environments.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU)

Attackers can create crafted inputs that intentionally cause the regular expression to use excessive backtracking in a way that causes the CPU consumption to spike.
