CVE-2026-59156
Description
A flaw was found in OpenImageIO, a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by providing a specially crafted Flexible Image Transport System (FITS) stream. This stream, containing consecutive header blocks without the mandatory 'end' keyword, causes unbounded recursion in the FITS header parser. This repeated recursive parsing exhausts the application's memory stack, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
Red Hat Product Security has determined that this vulnerability does not affect any currently supported Red Hat product. This assessment may evolve based on further analysis and discovery. For more information about this vulnerability and the products it affects, please see the linked references.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, avoid processing untrusted FITS image files with OpenImageIO. Users should only open FITS files from trusted sources to prevent potential denial of service.

Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Amplification
An infinite loop will cause unexpected consumption of resources, such as CPU cycles or memory. The software's operation may slow down, or cause a long time to respond.
