CVE-2026-58389
Description
A flaw was found in Apache Thrift Rust bindings. A remote attacker can exploit an allocation of resources without limits or throttling vulnerability to cause a denial of service (DoS). This occurs when the affected component fails to properly manage resource consumption, allowing an attacker to exhaust system resources and make the service unavailable.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Important because unauthenticated remote attackers can trigger excessive memory consumption across network boundaries, resulting in a complete denial of service for affected Thrift endpoints without requiring specialized privileges. Applications implementing Apache Thrift Rust bindings that accept untrusted binary protocol payloads are directly susceptible to process crashes from memory exhaustion. The impact remains constrained to application availability, with no compromise of system confidentiality or integrity.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (Other)
When allocating resources without limits, an attacker could prevent other systems, applications, or processes from accessing the same type of resource. It can be easy for an attacker to consume many resources by rapidly making many requests or causing larger resources to be used than is needed.
