CVE-2026-57187
Description
A flaw was found in Asterisk. This vulnerability allows an authenticated remote attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) through a heap use-after-free memory error in the PJSIP communication handling component. By sending a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) INVITE request over a connection-oriented transport and disconnecting before the server finishes responding, an attacker can crash the service and disrupt telephony operations.
Statement
This vulnerability is evaluated as Moderate impact because exploitation requires valid user authentication and only leads to a denial of service. The defect is triggered when a client abruptly terminates a connection-oriented transport before the exchange completes in PJSIP. Additionally, Asterisk is not packaged or distributed in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, limiting exposure across standard Red Hat deployments.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory
If the expired pointer is used in a read operation, an attacker might be able to control data read in by the application.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
If the expired pointer references a memory location that is not accessible to the product, or points to a location that is "malformed" (such as NULL) or larger than expected by a read or write operation, then a crash may occur.
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
If the expired pointer is used in a function call, or points to unexpected data in a write operation, then code execution may be possible.
