CVE-2026-57179

Description

A flaw was found in social-auth-core. The partial-pipeline resume mechanism processes partial authentication tokens without binding them to the originating browser session. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by initiating an authentication flow to obtain a token and inducing a victim to resume that flow. This results in session fixation, which forces the victim's browser to authenticate under the attacker's account.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated Moderate severity for Red Hat because successful exploitation requires user interaction and is contingent upon applications implementing resumable multi-stage authentication pipelines. In Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, typical deployments do not rely on resumable partial pipeline steps, minimizing potential attack surfaces. Furthermore, the flaw does not allow privilege escalation on the underlying host or arbitrary code execution, restricting the impact to session fixation within the web interface.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
