CVE-2026-53999

Description

A flaw was found in the Radius Kubernetes controller. An authenticated attacker with permission to modify Deployment annotations can trigger unauthorized resource deletion, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) for other tenants in multi-tenant environments. This issue occurs because the controller processes deletion requests using container resource identifiers from user-controlled deployment status annotations without verifying tenant ownership.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated with an Important severity because an authenticated actor can induce cross-tenant resource destruction, leading to a severe denial of service in shared environments without requiring cluster administrative rights. Successful exploitation relies on a multi-tenant deployment topology where an attacker has rights to adjust deployment metadata and knows the target container identifier. Radius is not shipped or supported in Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Red Hat OpenShift, and native platform controllers remain unaffected.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Access Control

Technical Impact: Bypass Protection Mechanism

Access control checks for specific user data or functionality can be bypassed.

Access Control

Technical Impact: Gain Privileges or Assume Identity

Horizontal escalation of privilege is possible (one user can view/modify information of another user).

Access Control

Technical Impact: Gain Privileges or Assume Identity

Vertical escalation of privilege is possible if the user-controlled key is actually a flag that indicates administrator status, allowing the attacker to gain administrative access.
