CVE-2026-53253
Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Bluetooth Network Encapsulation Protocol (BNEP) component. A remote Bluetooth BNEP peer can exploit this vulnerability by sending a malformed short frame, leading to a slab out-of-bounds read. This can cause a kernel crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS), and potentially lead to limited information disclosure.
Statement
Red Hat has evaluated this issue as having a Moderate severity because exploitation requires an attacker to be within Bluetooth range and establish an active Bluetooth Network Encapsulation Protocol (BNEP) session with the host. In typical enterprise server deployments, Bluetooth interfaces are either absent, unpowered, or disabled by default, which substantially limits practical exposure. If a connection is established, the out-of-bounds read primarily triggers a kernel crash and denial of service, with limited potential for sensitive memory disclosure.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
