CVE-2026-53199

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Hyper-V network virtual service client (hv_netvsc) component. This vulnerability occurs in the netvsc_copy_to_send_buf function, where incorrect memory mapping of page buffer entries can lead to a system fault. Specifically, on 32-bit x86 systems with high memory configurations, using phys_to_virt() on pages above the low memory boundary causes a fatal error during network packet transmission. An attacker could potentially trigger this condition, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS) for the affected system.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality,Integrity

Technical Impact: Read Memory; Modify Memory

Incorrect pointer scaling will often result in buffer overflow conditions. Confidentiality can be compromised if the weakness is in the context of a buffer over-read or under-read.
