CVE-2026-49485
Description
A flaw was found in HAPI FHIR, a Java implementation of the HL7 FHIR standard. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by submitting a crafted resource that contains a malicious regular expression. This can lead to a denial of service (DoS) due to excessive CPU resource consumption when the FHIRPathEngine attempts to process the malformed expression without adequate input validation.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having an Important severity because an unauthenticated remote attacker can trigger significant denial of service with minimal attack complexity. Red Hat environments utilizing integration products such as Red Hat build of Apache Camel or Red Hat JBoss Fuse are affected if they process untrusted FHIR resources through the FHIRPath engine. The flaw is confined to resource exhaustion and service unavailability, with no direct loss of data confidentiality or integrity.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
