CVE-2026-48977

Description

A flaw was found in OpenSlide, a C library for reading whole slide image files. A remote attacker could exploit a vulnerability in the parse_level0_xml() function by providing a specially crafted Ventana BIF file with nonpositive row or column tile counts. This manipulation leads to attacker-controlled memory offsets, allowing arbitrary values to be written at those locations. Successful exploitation could result in a system crash or potentially enable arbitrary code execution.
