CVE-2026-47698
Description
A flaw was found in vm2. This vulnerability allows arbitrary code execution on the host system through a sandbox breakout. An attacker capable of running code inside the sandbox can manipulate host object properties using indirect function calls to bypass isolation boundaries and execute arbitrary commands directly on the host.
Statement
Red Hat has rated this vulnerability as having an Important severity because it permits an attacker to escape sandbox confinement and achieve arbitrary command execution under the privileges of the hosting application. To trigger this vulnerability, an attacker must have the ability to submit untrusted JavaScript into a service that relies on the vm2 execution engine. In Red Hat environments such as Red Hat Developer Hub and Ansible Automation Platform, exposure is confined to components evaluating user-provided scripts, limiting direct remote risk where script submission is restricted to authenticated, trusted operators.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
