CVE-2026-47596

Description

A flaw was found in the NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Linux. In the kernel mode layer, memory permissions are not properly preserved, allowing an unprivileged local user to write to read-only memory. This issue can lead to arbitrary code execution and privilege escalation on the affected system.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because an authenticated local user with standard access can bypass kernel memory write restrictions, potentially resulting in full kernel-level compromise. Exploitation is contingent upon an active local session on hosts configured with specialized NVIDIA hardware running the proprietary display driver. Standard enterprise deployments lacking NVIDIA graphics or compute acceleration components do not load these modules and are not exposed.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
