CVE-2026-46601

Description

A flaw was found in the golang.org/x/image/webp library's WebP decoder. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by providing a specially crafted WebP image containing a VP8 chunk with mismatched dimensions. This could cause the decoder to panic, leading to a denial of service (DoS) for applications processing such images.

Statement

Red Hat products are not affected by this vulnerability. The vulnerable WebP decoder in golang.org/x/image/webp is present as a transitive dependency but is never imported or called by any affected product. VolSync is a storage replication operator and Cryostat Storage is an object storage backend — neither processes WebP images.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
