CVE-2026-45762

Description

A flaw was found in Suricata, a network Intrusion Detection System. The IP defragmentation tracker lookup did not properly verify the IP address family of incoming packets. A remote attacker could send specially crafted fragmented IPv4/IPv6 traffic, causing an IPv6 fragment to be incorrectly associated with an IPv4 defragmentation tracker. This could lead to a crash and a denial of service when Suricata processes the fragmented packets.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Availability,Integrity,Confidentiality

Technical Impact: Read Memory; Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands; DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart

When a memory buffer is accessed using the wrong type, it could read or write memory out of the bounds of the buffer, if the allocated buffer is smaller than the type that the code is attempting to access, leading to a crash and possibly code execution.
